St. Paul's Episcopal Church
A rare example of Gothic Revival stone architecture in northern New Mexico is St. Paul's Episcopal Church at the corner of Eight and National Streets. Built between 1886 and 1888, this church was designed to serve as the cathedral church of the Missionary District of Arizona and New Mexico. Stylistically, the Episcopal Church bears some influence from architect Richard Upjohn's design for St. Mary's Church in Burlington, New Jersey of 1846-48. The massive stone tower, with its corner buttressed, ogee-arched windows, and battlement crown, effectively dominates what was known to early Las Vegans as Zion Hill (because of the cluster of churches there).
