#7 The Edward Durell Stone House, 1710 Eighth Street; Built 1938
Amid its fashionable surroundings of brick Victorian and Ranch style houses, the
Blattman House soars to two white stories of elegant, precise modernism. This house
was designed by famous New York architect Edward Durell Stone for Collier's Magazine,
and somehow found its way to the high plains of New Mexico. The use of glass block,
clean stark facades, and rigid geometry define it as a great New Mexico International
Style house. Now turn immediately right on Diane Street, proceed al the way
east to Seventh Street (a major avenue); turn right on Seventh Street
to the traffic light at Mills Avenue. Proceed through the traffic light and travel
three or four blocks south to Baca Avenue. There on the corner is a cluster of
