#23 The Casa Redonda (the round house), 1409 South Pacific Street; Built ca. 1870

This house is remarkable for its form rather than its details. Completely built of adobe, fourteen rooms surround a central placita (courtyard). The Casa Redonda is one of the few fully realized courtyard houses in northern New Mexico. The house has a long and remarkable history. It housed one of the Territory's leading merchant families, the Romeros; served as home for the Jesuit School for Boys; and was the headquarters for La Revista Catolica from 1875 to 1919, for many years a leading Spanish-language Jesuit newspaper.
