#17. The Vicente Silva House, 225 Moreno Street; Built ca. 1880
This fascinating house could be called a New Mexican folk-style, Renaissance Revival residence. The
elegant Palladian windows and alternating bands of red and tan sandstone are a surprise here or anywhere.
Many people belive this was the home, headquarters, or "den of iniquity" for the lawless gang of local
outlaw Vicente Silva, who terrorized Las Vegas in the 1890's. Now proceed down Moreno Street one
block, turn right at South Gonzales. Drive past picturesque adobe houses (some of the oldest in
