By 1895, Hillsite Park, now known as Carnegie Park, was completely surrounded by wood frame homes,
many of them being highly decorated Victorians. This was the neighborhood for many of the more affluent:
bankers, doctors, lawyers, railroad managers and conductors.
The building on the top was Dr. J.M. Cunningham's, a homeopathic physician and surgeon, President of the
San Miguel National Bank in 1892, and the second mayor of the town of East Las Vegas. Later Henry and Gomecinda R. Goke lived here, both were popular merchants in Sapello, N.M.
This Queen Anne style home was removed to make room for a parking lot.
David Thomas and his wife, came to Las Vegas, from N.Y. via Chicago and Emporia KS., and built this
fantastic Eastlake style cottage, that used a sunburst motif and roof cresting. Charlie and Emelie Tamme
later moved in, after Mrs. Thomas died, but probably fire caused this home's ruin shortly after.
Dr. and Emilia Otero Henriquez built this Victorian Italianate house. The house was built with a second story balcony, a feature common to Hillsite Park homes. This house was removed to make room for a new church.
