Acequia Madre de Los Vigiles originally diverted from the river at the mouth of Sebastian Canyon, visible from Los Vigiles Road north of Las Vegas. Early maps refer to it then as the Mora Ditch and show it irrigating land on which Wal-Mart and the empty K-Mart stores now stand. After 1879 the diversion of this ditch was moved to branch off the Storrie Lake canal.
