Asylum, or Baca Ditch is largely no longer in use due to destruction of its diversion dam, though users still irrigate with pumps from the river and may restore it. The ditch originally diverted water from the river about 3 miles north of Las Vegas and delivered water to a large area of West Las Vegas. It crossed Cinder Road (north of Mills Avenue) and loosely followed Montezuma Street to the west. A portion of this acequia coursed near Our Lady of Sorrows Church and eventually joined Acequia de Las Vegas in the Plaza/Bridge Street area.
