The New Mexico Acequia Association is a state wide organization composed of approximately 1500 independent acequia associations. It was formed in 1988 to work on behalf of members protecting their local autonomy and right of self-government. It helps provide management and financial assistance and current information about water issues, and actively lobbies state and federal legislators on issues affecting acequia members throughout New Mexico.
